Los Angeles/Toronto/ Vancouver - (May 26, 2022) – marblemedia and Mezo Entertainment announced today they are in development on a live-action sci-fi adventure series, Generation Mars (10x60’). Helmed by creator Robert C. Cooper (Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, Stargate) the series is based on the popular books of the same name by Douglas D. Meredith.

Generation Mars chronicles humanity's perilous extraterrestrial endeavour from the unique point of view of an extraordinary family. It’s an optimistic heart-pounding thrill ride based on hard science that will inspire adventure-seekers of all ages.

Why would anyone have kids on a planet that always seems to be actively trying to kill them? Because the future may depend on it. The year is 2053 and twelve-year-old Cas is famous on two worlds. She’s a true Martian, the first human being born on Mars. Twenty years earlier the first settlers arrived from Earth, and now Cas is about to step outside and see the Martian sky with her own eyes for the first time.

marblemedia signed-on award-winning creator, and executive producer, Robert C. Cooper of Mezo Entertainment as the project’s showrunner. Known for show running the Stargate franchise through 3 series, spanning 17 seasons for MGM, he has since been the showrunner for the absurdly funny, hip and violent Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency for BBC America. He also produced and show ran the medical drama Unspeakable for Sundance channel, which was named on the Hollywood Reporter's and New York Times' Best Television of 2019 lists.

Explore Mars Inc., a not for profit whose mission is to achieve human exploration of Mars by the mid-2030s, have boarded the series. Bringing space stakeholders, policy makers, innovation professionals, international partners, and space enthusiasts together, Explore Mars led by CEO Chris Carberry and President Janet Ivey, will consult and work on outreach to authenticate and raise awareness for the series. Recently, they hosted their annual The Humans to Mars Summit in Washington D.C, where marblemedia’s VP Kids/Family Development, A.J. Trauth, and Robert Cooper spoke on the “STEM In Media” panel.

Bringing scientific credibility to help build a realistic story world, Dr. Tanya Harrison, a Ph.D. in Geology with a specialization in Planetary Science and Exploration, has boarded the project as a consultant. Dr. Harrison is a respected Mars expert who has worked as a geoscientist and mission operations specialists on multiple NASA Mars missions over the past 13 years.  She currently works as the Director of Strategic Science Initiatives at Planet Labs and as a Fellow at the University of British Columbia’s Outer Space Institute.

Additionally, astronaut in training, Alyssa Carson, joins the series as a consultant. This 21-year-old pioneer is the youngest person to be accepted to and graduate from the Advanced Possum Academy, officially certifying her to travel to space as an astronaut trainee. In addition to this remarkable accomplishment, she is a global speaker, an author of ‘So You Want to be an Astronaut’, featured in the documentary The Mars Generation, and was recently selected as one of seven ambassadors representing Mars One, a mission to establish a human colony on Mars in 2030.

“We’re excited to announce our partnerships in bringing this ambitious four-quadrant hard science fiction series to the screen,” shared A.J. Trauth, VP of Kids/Family Development at marblemedia. “Doug (Meredith) wrote an edge-of-your-seat, thriller of a novel and we can’t wait to build out this story for TV audiences of all ages with Rob Cooper and the contribution of our impressive panel of experts.”

“Doug’s books are about three things.  The importance of family, co-operation and science.” said Rob Cooper “For me, Generation Mars is about human resilience and forging a meaningful existence in the face of what life throws at you.  I have three daughters and I’m excited to be part of something that will inspire the next generation of scientists, explorers and leaders.  We need them badly.”

RACE AGAINST THE TIDE RETURNS FOR A SECOND SEASON ON CBC THIS SUMMER, PREMIERING JULY 10 WITH HOST MAESTRO FRESH WES

CBC today announced the return of original competition series RACE AGAINST THE TIDE (10x30) for a second season, produced by marblemedia and premiering Sunday, July 10 at 8:30 p.m. (9 NT) on CBC and CBC Gem. New Brunswick-based, award-winning Hip Hop artist Maestro Fresh Wes hosts the new season, featuring a new group of sand sculptors who will compete head-to-head at the Bay of Fundy to create extraordinary sand art before the world’s highest tide comes in, while attempting to avoid elimination.

“I am so excited to be joining season two of RACE AGAINST THE TIDE and can't wait for audiences to witness the amazing talent these diverse artists possess. The sand sculptures they create are spectacular,” said Maestro Fresh Wes.

Each week, the artists have six hours to create their sand sculptures before the tide washes them away. In the end, the two judges – five-time World Champion Karen Fralich (Burlington, ON) and Master Sculptor Rusty Croft (Carmel Valley, CA) – will decide which duo will walk away with the grand prize of $10,000.

RACE AGAINST THE TIDE season two host Wes Williams, otherwise known as “Maestro Fresh Wes,” was born in Toronto and is considered to be the godfather of Canadian Hip Hop. Maestro Fresh Wes recently became the first Hip Hop artist inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall Of Fame for his 1989 signature song “Let Your Backbone Slide,” and is also the first Black Canadian artist to have a recording reach platinum status in Canada. He now resides in Saint John, New Brunswick.

This season’s 10 highly-skilled sand sculpting duos are:

  • Agnese Rudzīte-Kirillova and Sanita Ravina (Latvia) – Agnese is an accomplished mixed media artist who learned about sand sculpting over a decade ago and has been doing it professionally ever since. Sanita discovered sand sculpting when she was a young girl, but has only been doing it full-time for the past four years.

  • Bouké Atema and Jeroen Advocaat (Germany and The Netherlands) – Originally from Kenya, Bouké has been sand sculpting since 2002 and is well-versed in several different art forms. He is known for sculptures depicting nature, while his partner, Jeroen, prefers structural design. Jeroen, a professional sculptor of over 18 years, studied architecture and 3D design.

  • Carlos Pereyra and Francisco Valdez (Mexico) – Carlos and Francisco have a combined total of 23 years experience in sand sculpting. The friends met before a competition in Mexico, when Carlos’ original partner backed out at the last minute. He had heard about Francisco and his talent, but didn’t personally know him. Francisco filled in for that competition, and the rest is history.

  • Craig Mutch and Daeyoung Ji (Vancouver, BC and South Korea) – Craig and Daeyoung want to bring their East-meets-West sculpture style to the world’s toughest beach battle. Craig has been a professional sculptor for 35 years working in ice, sand and snow, whereas Daeyoung has been sculpting for seven years and was catapulted to international success after completing an apprenticeship in Australia.

  • Fred Dobbs and Guy-Olivier Deveau (Sidney, BC and Quebec, QC) – Fred, who has been sculpting for over 35 years and is considered a Canadian carving legend, is recognized around the world as a professional sand sculptor. Guy-Olivier, who has been sculpting for more than 15 years, is one of Canada’s premier sand sculptors and is known for his dark Gothic creations.

  • Jo (Stefanie) Hollick and Manuel Campos (Vancouver, BC and Columbia) – Jo began sand sculpting on the beaches of White Rock, BC over two decades ago. With many career achievements under her belt, her biggest personal feat was placing fifth in the Parksville Beach Festival. Manuel has been a professional sand sculptor for over 12 years and has been awarded many different awards at various competitions.

  • JT (Joseph) Estrela and Amanda Gafford (USA) – Originally a math teacher, JT switched careers and now owns and operates his own company called San Diego Sand Castles. He has been professionally sculpting for seven years while his partner, Amanda, is a registered nurse by day, and an artist by night.

  • Peter Vogelaar and Alex Avelino (Winlaw, BC and Nelson, BC) – Peter and Alex are a mentor/mentee team from Canada who have sculpted together all over the world in both sand and snow. Peter, a professional artist, has been sculpting for almost two decades while Alex, a graphic designer, has been sculpting for nearly eight years.

  • Walter McDonald and Christy Atkinson (USA) – Walter and Christy are a father/daughter duo from the United States. Walter is the world’s oldest, still working sand sculptor, who discovered sand sculpting in the early 80s. Christy has been sand sculpting since 2003 and was taught everything she knows by her father.

  • Wilfred Stijger and Edith van de Wetering (The Netherlands) – This husband and wife duo are professional sand sculptors who have over 25 years of experience and have competed in hundreds of festivals around the globe. Their mind-blown surrealist sculptures are recognized across the world.

In the inaugural season of the show, PEI's Abe Waterman and Seattle's Sue McGrew took the top spot. Catch up on episodes on CBC Gem.

RACE AGAINST THE TIDE is executive produced by Matt Hornburg and Mark Bishop of marblemedia; series producer and writer is Carly Spencer and Donna Luke of marblemedia serves as co-executive producer. Co-produced with Hemmings House. Award-winning Canadian writer and producer, Alexandra Zarowny

attached as writer and executive producer

TORONTO/LOS ANGELES June 15, 2021 - marblemedia is expanding its primetime slate by going into development on a new one-hour drama series, Persuasion, based on the national best-selling business book from powerhouse Canadian entrepreneur and TV personality, Arlene Dickinson.

Featuring a cast and creative team of empowered women, both behind and in front of the cameras, this brand-new series will take a much different approach than other scripted series about business. Instead of showcasing the ruthless underbelly of business where the end justifies the means, Persuasion will take inspiration from Dickinson’s determination, dedication, tenacity and brilliance in her rise to successto dramatize a fresh & powerful approach to being effective in business.

marblemedia has optioned the rights to Persuasion, published by HarperCollins Canada. Dickinson will serve as an executive producer on the series, her first scripted television series, along with marblemedia’s Matthew Hornburg, Mark Bishop and Carrie Paupst Shaughnessy, and Alexandra Zarowny is attached to write and executive produce.

Inspired by Arlene Dickinson’s book of the same namethe fictional series will explore the exhilarating high-octane, fast-paced world of marketing, public relations, and entrepreneurship where, through a dynamic and diverse cast of characters, the battle to do business ethically and honestly is fought every day. Through the lens of Rachel Nicholson’, a tough, fiery, innovative marketing mastermind, and her team at Trailblazer, we join Rachel as she journeys through two different periods of her life – as a tenacious young mother with no formal education in the 1990s, and a marketing maven and celebrity in present day. The series recognizes women’s leadership and the power of their unstoppable influence – motivating others around them, breaking glass ceilings and paving their own path – all while lifting up and setting the example for the next generation.

“We are going to focus this story on elements of the high-stakes business world that we don’t typically see on television”, said Carrie Paupst Shaughnessy, Executive Producer and VP Scripted at marblemedia.“We will showcase the bravery it takes to invest in a dream and try to beat the odds, and that business can be an emotional rollercoaster ride -- all while showcasing a strong woman at the center who forges her own path and demonstrates that successful business can be done differently.”

“I’m thrilled to be working with marblemedia on a scripted version of my book to bring a show about a female leader forging her own path to television viewers around the world,” says Arlene Dickinson, executive producer. “The world needs a show that demonstrates a different approach to doing business successfully and that inspires women to break barriers to reach their dreams, that is what is at the core of Persuasion.”

Best-selling author, investor and renowned entrepreneur, Arlene Dickinson is widely recognized for her role as a ‘Dragon’ on the multi-award-winning television series, Dragons’ Den. Arlene is also an inductee in Canada’s Most Powerful Women Top 100 Hall of Fame, amongst many other accolades. Arlene has become an icon for doing business with integrity.

“I am humbled and thrilled to be working with Arlene, a personal hero of mine who continues to smash through glass ceilings.  Her rise from rock bottom to renowned business maverick is truly inspiring.” adds Alexandra Zarowny, writer and executive producer. “Persuasion will be filled with do-or-die drama and revel in the aspirational glamour of a woman who achieved success and power while remaining true to herself and her ideals.”

Most recently, Zarowny served as an Executive Producer and Showrunner on Global’s popular Private Eyes starring Jason Priestly and Cindy Sampson. Other producing credits include CBC’s Murdoch Mysteries and Republic of Doyle, Showcase’s Lost Girl and Syfy’s Wynonna Earp.

Persuasion joins marblemedia’s previously announced adaptation of The Other Boy, a best-selling novel by M.G. Hennessey, and Holding Still, a Toronto-set novel by celebrated author, poet and screenwriter, Zoe Whittall. These projects will all foster a new generation of stories driven by perspectives that need to be shared, heard and celebrated.

Super Channel hosts The Parker Andersons on Heart & Home

The Parker Andersons to premiere April 19 at 8p.m. ET followed by Amelia Parker at 8:30 p.m. ET

Two interconnected shows, one blended family

March 10, 2021 – Super Channel is pleased to announce it has acquired two new innovative family comedies slated for their Canadian premiere on Super Channel Heart & Home this April. The Parker Andersons (10 x 30 min) and Amelia Parker(10 x 30 min) follow the life of one interracial family, blended by marriage. The two interwoven scripted series highlight events in the life of the Parker-Anderson family from two different perspectives. Produced by marble media and Beachwood Canyon Productions, both series were shot in Toronto.

The Parker Andersons will premiere on Monday, April 19 at 8 p.m. ET, followed by Amelia Parker at 8:30 p.m. ET. Each half-hour episode will also be available on Super Channel On Demand, the day following its weekly linear broadcast.
This completely new and innovative concept enhances traditional TV storytelling by creating two stand-alone comedy series, each with their own storylines and episodes, while still connected by larger overarching plotlines tying the two independent shows together. The Parker Andersons follows the heartfelt family moments and warmly comedic antics of a newly blended family, while Amelia Parker centers around the quietest member of the family as she navigates the world around her.

“We are excited to bring this ground-breaking series to Super Channel Heart & Home,” said Jackie Pardy, Chief Content Officer for Super Channel. “Its unique story telling format allows viewers to get to know the Parker Andersons from two distinct perspectives and provides a refreshing look into the hilarious and heartwarming lives of this blended family, that we are sure Heart & Home viewers will connect with."

The Parker Andersons follows Tony Parker, a British widower and father of two (Nathan and Amelia), who moves to the United States, where he marries Cleo Anderson, the mother of two kids (Victoria and Charlie). The series follows this diverse family as they learn that their differences are exactly what they need to create a happy new life together.

Amelia Parker centers around the quietest member of the Parker Anderson family, a tween girl who has been selectively mute since her mother died a few years ago. If she’s going to participate in the world again, she’d better find her voice. In confessionals, we see that Amelia is actually an opinionated, vivacious girl, who openly explains her hopes, anxieties, and fears in virtual conversations with her deceased mom.

Anthony Q. Farrell serves as showrunner and an executive producer for both series. Farrell has written for The Office, Little Mosque on the Prairie and Nickelodeon’s The Thunderman’s and has developed shows for CBS Studios, Disney Channel and Cartoon Network, among others. He is also the creator of Secret Life of Boys, the BAFTA-winning CBBC series in its fifth season.

The Parker Andersons and Amelia Parker stars Arnold Pinnock as Tony Parker (Cardinal, Coroner, Baroness Von Sketch), Kate Hewlett as Cleo Anderson (The Stanley Dynamic, Degrassi: The Next Generation, The Girlfriend Experience), Millie Davis as Amelia Parker (Odd Squad, Dino Dana, Wonder, Orphan Black), Agape Mngomezulu as Nathan Parker (Best Intentions, The Twilight Zone, Supernatural), Devin Cecchetto as Victoria Anderson (Ginny & Georgia, The Craft), Charlie Zeltzer as Charlie Anderson (The Handmaid's Tale, Anne with an E), Sandy Jobin-Bevans as Roger Anderson (Designated Survivor, Just Like Mom and Dad, Good Witch)and Akiel Julien as Nick Parker (Utopia Falls, The Boys, What We Do in the Shadows).

Executive Producers for the series include Mark J.W. Bishop, Matt Hornburg, Carrie Paupst Shaughnessy, and Co-Executive Producer Donna Luke (marblemedia); Executive Producers Frank van Keeken and Yolanda Yott (Beachwood Canyon); Executive Producer and Showrunner Anthony Q. Farrell and Producer Jim Corston. Executive producers for BYUtv include Michael A. Dunn, Andra Johnson Duke, Melissa Puente and Jim Bell.

Toronto (October 13, 2020) - Award-winning media production and distribution company, marblemedia, in association with award-winning creator Beachwood Canyon Productions, announces today production is set to begin later this month in Toronto on series, The Parker Andersons and Amelia Parker (20 eps x 30 mins), two brand-new scripted family single camera sitcoms that follows the life of one bi-racial family, blended by marriage.

In this completely new and innovative concept, the series will enhance traditional TV storytelling by creating two stand-alone comedy series, The Parker Andersons and Amelia Parker, each with their own storylines and episodes, while still connected by larger overarching plotlines tying the two independent series together. The Parker Andersons follows the warmly comedic antics of a newly blended family, while Amelia Parker centers around the quietest member of the family, a tween girl navigating the world around her.

The Parker Andersons follows Tony Parker, a British widower and father of two (Nathan and Amelia), who moves to North America where he meets and marries Cleo Anderson, the mother of two kids (Victoria and Charlie). All together, they quickly discover that sometimes being ‘blended’ feels a lot like being in a blender.

Amelia Parker centers around the quietest member of the Parker Anderson family, a tween girl who is coming into her own. After her mother died, Amelia became selectively mute, figuring that before she participates in the world again, she better figure some things out. In confessionals, we see that Amelia is actually an opinionated, vivacious girl, who openly explains her hopes, anxieties and fears in virtual conversations with her deceased mom.

Anthony Q. Farrell takes over as Showrunner for both series. Farrell has written for NBC’s The Office, CBC’s Little Mosque on the Prairie, and Nickelodeon’s The Thundermans and has developed TV series for CBS Studios, Disney Channel, Cartoon Network amongst others. He is the creator of Secret Life of Boys, the BAFTA-winning CBBC series, which is in its fifth season. Anthony joins the series bringing unparalleled talent, humour and leadership to really form the true essence of both shows.  He has assembled a richly talented and diverse team of writers and directors to assist him in ensuring that the stories for both shows are not only entertaining, but also authentic. Leading by example through collaboration and providing opportunity for the next generation, Anthony Q. Farrell is reimagining show running for the next wave.

“We could not be more excited to work with Anthony Q. Farrell as he leads his diverse team of writers, actors and directors to create these new shows. Both productions will showcase the real emotions and experiences that come with honest representation of blended families. We cannot wait to share these hilarious and heartwarming series with audiences around the world” shares Mark Bishop, Executive Producer and co-CEO of marblemedia. “We’re extremely grateful to Frank van Keeken for creating a beautiful concept and story world for both of these new shows.”

"This series has incredible potential. And with my awesome team of writers-- Jay Vaidya, Amanda Joy, Murry Peeters, Ian Steaman and Sadiya Durrani, we are hoping to unlock as much of it as possible. We're having tons of fun in the room tackling topics that we rarely see on television," said Anthony Q. Farrell, Showrunner & Executive Producer.

“I am thrilled that Anthony Q. Farrell is leading our team as the showrunner for The Parker-Andersons and Amelia Parker,”adds Executive Producer and Series Creator Frank van Keeken.

The series has been commissioned by BYUtv in the US to debut in 2021 as part of their focus on inspiring family programming and will launch in Canada later in 2021, with a Canadian broadcaster to be announced soon.

The Parker-Andersons and Amelia Parker will star Arnold Pinnock as Tony Parker (Cardinal, Coroner, Baroness Von Sketch), Kate Hewlett as Cleo Anderson (The Stanley Dynamic, Degrassi: The Next Generation, The Girlfriend Experience), Millie Davis as Amelia Parker(Odd Squad, Dino Dana, Orphan Black), Agape Mngomezulu as Nathan Parker (Best Intentions, The Twilight Zone, Supernatural), Devin Cecchetto as Victoria Anderson (Ginny & Georgia, The Craft), Charlie Zeltzeras Charlie Anderson (The Handmaid’s Tale, Anne with an E), Sandy Jobin-Bevans as Roger Anderson (Designated Survivor,Just Like Mom and Dad, Good Witch, Baroness Von Sketch Show) and Akiel Julien as Nick Parker (Utopia Falls, The Boys, What We Do in the Shadows).
